I received my notebook for the Do Not Leave Unattended! project today, and I am excited to get started, I have lots of ideas already, I will post the outcome when I finish. I have enjoyed looking through the already completed entries this morning on the blog.

Ben Van Dyke

Experimental Typography - "From computer screen to gallery wall like a giant, living photoshop document." I don't claim to know anything much about typography but I am learning to appreciate it more and more recently. I think Ben Van Dyke's work appeals to me because it translates the art of typography into a physical form which I can understand. The work is so delicate and sensitive, casting light and shade on the letters usually confined to a screen or page.

John Mann

I try not to re-post things I've found on other people's blogs too much, but I have falled in love with the Folded in Place series by John Mann.

I happened on something cool...

I spotted the Flower Blobs by Roberley Bell over at Mackin Ink (I love this blog), and went off to explore the rest of Bell's work where I dicovered that he makes artists books! I love it when that kind of thing happens.

Perera's work oscillates between the vertical and horizontal plane, liberating glazed wall hung artwork to a publicly accessible space to be handled and touched, sometimes inviting the viewer to alter the artwork-which allows the final editorial control of the piece to be shared. Her work invariably exploits her background in Medicine and Science, toying with size, scale, shape and style. She combines traditional and digital techniques, attempting to merge the unique with the multiple, creating “unique multiples” through slight variations on the theme.

Okay. So Prop 8 passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think that I am a second class citizen. Alright then. So my wife, uh I mean, roommate? Girlfriend? Special lady friend? You are gonna have to help me here because I am not sure what to call her now. Anyways, she and I are not allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen. Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books….

I can't remember exactly where I saw my first piece of Tara Donovan's work, but I love it. Who doesn't? Tara has her first major museum survey on at ICA Boston until January 4th, and how I wish I could visit!

I have been missing Atlanta ever since I left in April, but Boston is starting to sound very appealing. It seems they get everything right in New England. I don't think I mention often that I am married to an American woman and that, at present, there are no immigration rights for same-sex partners of American citizens. Sigh... fingers and toes crossed for Obama! I will be at a bar all night watching the election results, with a bunch of other Americans who are here with their English partners. I don't usually pray, but...
